RETINAL LASER SURGERY

The eye may have many retinal conditions that are treatable either medically or with a laser. In this case, the above image is of a normal appearing retina, but conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and various circulatory or inflammatory conditions can damage the circulation and delicate nerve tissue of the eye.

By use of angiography, we can localize and treat the retina, using lasers to help to preserve vision. But the patient can also do many things to improve the health of the retina. If you are diabetic, studies have shown that tight control is beneficial for the eye. If you have macular degeneration, eliminate risk factors such as smoking. And certain antioxidant vitamins may be of benefit. Control of blood pressure is also a critical factor. Treatment with Anti-VEGF injections is often beneficial for those patients with the wet form of macular disease.
