ReSTOR® Lens Implant
The ReSTOR implant is designed to provide both distance and near vision with a single lens implant. The surgical procedure is comparable to cataract surgery, but the pre-operative evaluation is more demanding, and the patient selection is critical to obtain the best results. The patient must have minimal amounts of astigmatism, and a tolerance for occasional halos when driving at night. Approximately 80% of the eligible patients who have ReSTOR implanted will be spectacle free. Approximaely 5% of patients will have visually disturbing halos at night. There may be a need for glasses for intermediate vision (computer, for example).
The ReSTOR lens is deemed by Medicare as a "Deluxe" lens, and there are additional costs not covered by Medicare or most insurance carriers for this procedure. For patient who require cataract surgery, the charge is an additional $2000 per eye for this procedure, above the insurance allowable.
