Refractive Lensectomy
This procedure involves the surgical removal of the natural crystalline lens, and replacement with a lens implant. It is not necessary to have a cataract to perform this procedure. The replacement lens can be a multifocal (ReSTOR), an aspheric (Technis or AcrySof IQ) or a toric lens to correct astigmatism.
Each of these lenses has specific benefits and risks, and each involves costs additional to conventional lens implant surgery.
Other lenses are available, and the indications for them should be discussed with your ophthalmologist.
