| Dr.
Channon joined the group in 1981. He is a graduate of
the City University of New York, Queens College. Dr. Channon
then completed his medical school at the New York Medical
College, where he was a member of the AOA National Medical
Honor Society, and a Mosby Scholar. A medical internship
was completed at the Metropolitan Hospital Center, in
New York, and a medical residency at the State University
of Stonybrook, Northport. A residency in Ophthalmology
was completed at the Downstate Medical Center, in New
York.
Dr.
Channon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology,
and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His
particular interest is Small Incision Cataract surgery. Advanced technology lenses, such as the Acrysof Toric IOL that corrects for astigmatism are available. This results in a decreased need for glasses for distance vision. Also available are the various multifocal lens implants, although these involve extensive preoperative evaluation to ensure that the patient achieves the desired visual outcome.
Dr.
Channon is equally at home in the operating room, a
computer terminal or on the tennis court. His neighbors
report that he is frequently spotted rollerblading with
his family.
